The central theme of Gond paintings is nature, and they often depict local flora and fauna, daily life, mythology, local deities and rituals.
Characteristics
Gond art is characterized by the mythical as well as folklore motif passed down among them, floral as well as faunal motif, and the patterned designs delicately filling each motif.
Techniques
The colours are extracted naturally from plant sap, leaves, coloured soil, charcoal, and even cow dung. They mix the pigments with water or gum to create a consistent consistency for painting. Gond art uses a variety of patterns, including dots, fine lines, curved lines, dashes, fish scales, drops of water, seed shapes, and geometrical shapes.
